We simply love to travel! One of the most exciting things about preparing for trip is packing up your clothes, shoes and toiletries. That’s the moment where it all starts to feel real, and at times, we can get a little stressed about forgetting essential stuff. Here are some insights and tips about packing and suitcase preparation.
Packing list
Make a list of things to bring: clothes, accessories, toiletries, etc. You can also keep this packing list for another trip and adjust it accordingly for your next destination.
Start packing early and gather all the garments you anticipate needing
Ideally, set out your open suitcase 3-4 days before departure or designate a corner of your room or a chair to pile on a few things you might want to bring for your trip.
Clothing and shoes
Each clothing item must be dual or triple-purpose. Select clothes in the same color family or be sure that each top, sweater, or pair of pants should go with at least two or three other items in the suitcase. Pack more tops than bottoms and favor knitted made of synthetic materials, as they are less likely to wrinkle.
Follow the rule of three for the shoes.
A place for everything, and everything in its place
In order to optimise space in your luggage, lay everything down like a layered cake.
Step 1: Start with the heavy stuff, such as shoes and toiletries (you can use a Ziplocs bag to seal up toiletries which could suddenly sprung leaks or smell)
Step 2: Use the space in your shoes for socks, toiletries, beauty products, jewelry or breakables
Step 3: Roll softer garments and fold stiffer ones
Step 4: Arrange rolled items on top of the heavier stuff
Step 5: Add the folded garments
Step 6: Top the pile with the clothes you’ll need first, like pajamas or swimsuit
Step 7: Icing on the cake, pack an extra travel bag for what you'll bring back from your trip or for the dirty laundry
Voilà! Your luggage is now ready! You are now at just a few hours away from your awesome vacation. Off you go!
What about you? Do you have precious tips to suggest?
