Another rough night

I am a light sleeper, as far as I can remember, I’ve always been like that. If you ask me what a good night's sleep is, I would say that it’s to sleep well from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 then toss and turn until 6:30 when I get annoyed and get up. I know I'm not the only one experiencing sleep difficulties and sleep disorders have multiple causes and cause several health risks.

Though, I'm not complaining because I find myself lucky enough to wake up without being very tired and I get to make it through my days without being too sleepy in the afternoon.

I must admit that there are interesting things that can be heard at night, but they can also sometimes be a bit disconcerting. Last week for example, I heard coyotes! At first I was not quite awake so I thought it was all a dream, but I still heard them after getting up to close the window, by then it was obvious that I had not dreamed them at all. I did not know we had coyotes in the city I live in. See, it can still be interesting to be awakened at night haha!

With age, and especially my work that takes a lot of energy and time, I feel like memory blanks are becoming more often, and that I need more sleep. Despite what you may find as symptoms on the web, according to my doctor I don’t have insomnia since I’m not tired during the day, which with all I have to do is a good thing!

According to my doctor, I have a lot of insomnia symptoms, such as: waking up often or for long periods of time at night, I have difficulty concentrating, etc. However, I am not overly tired during the day and I wake up well rested enough in the morning. So no worries at this level.

According to him, in my case, it would rather be a stress issue. As we know, stress can cause all sorts of symptoms including those of insomnia. Also, given my long hours of work, I don’t get enough physical activity, it’s very bad for the hormonal balance in my brain and it responds by keeping me awake of course!

In short, I'll have to make changes in my habits, I should get back to meditation and do more physical activity.

How about you? Are you having problems sleeping? What did you do about it?
