Boots on the fence

The other day, I came across a Facebook post on which there was a photo with boots upside down on fence posts. The publication came from @theSaskatchewanderer and said, "Why do farmers put boots on fence posts? And the answer they found was: "To ask a farmer why we do that is like asking why we decorate Christmas trees. We do it, that's all. "

Although this answer was satisfactory for some, it left me on my appetite. Moreover, it’s no secret that there is a reason behind the tradition of decorations on Christmas trees. So why not the boots on the posts? I needed to know more. First, having known many farmers in my time, I know there was always a reason for what they were doing and then, because I'm curious and my little voice told me that there was something else to understand in this tradition. So, I did my own research. Here is what he turned up.

The tradition is in two stages ...

The first reason is very rational; recycling and the economy of materials. Not having all the wood protection solutions we have today, and wanting to extend the life of the fence's wooden posts, the farmers put their old boots upside down to prevent rain from entering the woods and accelerating decay.

Admit that it's still ingenious! Recycling at its best!

The second reason is a thousand times more emotional; the boots on the poles are there in memory of a dead mount, a farm worker or a dead comrade. It was a way for them to keep their friends in memory, and that they watch over the farm after their leave.

Touching is it not?

Also, before the phones were invented, by hanging his boots on the fence posts of the entrance, he indicated that he was at home and that his workday was over.

I wonder if running shoes sometimes hooked up to electrical wires in towns also have significance ... Maybe the subject of my next article. To be continued.

In the meantime, what do you think of this tradition of boot on fence posts? We listen to you on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Portofinoshoes/
